Stove and Oven Repair Questions
Why is my oven not heating?
First make sure the oven is not set to a delayed start or a timer mode. On an electric oven, look at the bake element: a visible break or blister means it has failed, and if it looks intact a temperature sensor or a control fault is more likely. On a gas oven the most common cause is a weak igniter, which can still glow but no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. Anything beyond the element check needs inspection.
Why does my gas burner click but not light?
Most often the burner cap is out of place or the ports are blocked after a spill. With the burner off and cool, check that the cap sits flat, and clear the ports with a straight pin rather than a toothpick that can snap off. A burner that keeps clicking after a cleaning may simply need a day to dry. If it persists, the spark switch or module needs inspection. If you ever smell gas, turn the burner off, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside.
Why does my oven bake unevenly?
Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack and preheat fully. If it reads well off the setting, the temperature sensor or the calibration is the likely cause, and many ovens let you set a small offset from the controls. If the temperature is accurate and results are still uneven, a worn door gasket letting heat escape, crowded racks blocking the airflow, or a convection fan that has stopped are more likely.
Is my stove worth repairing or should I replace it?
Ranges and wall ovens tend to outlast most other appliances, and their common failures — an element, an igniter, a burner switch — are usually worth repairing. The closer calls are a cracked glass cooktop or a failed control board on an older unit, where the part can approach the price of a new range. The technician will say plainly when replacement is the better value.
How does stove and oven repair pricing work?
Pricing follows the part and the labour. Swapping a bake element is a short job; replacing a control board or a glass cooktop takes longer and the parts cost more. Because the work varies that much, we do not publish a flat rate. The technician works out the price for your specific fault on site.
Do you offer same-day stove and oven repair in London?
Same-day service is often available in London, but it is not something we guarantee. It depends on the day’s schedule, where you are, and whether the part is in stock. If an element is stuck on high in the meantime, switch the range off at the breaker. Call with your postal code and we will tell you the soonest window we actually have.
