Refrigerator Repair Questions

Why is my fridge warm when the freezer still works?

In most refrigerators the cold air is made in the freezer and blown into the fresh-food side, so this pattern usually means that airflow has stopped. First check the temperature setting and that food is not blocking the vents between the two compartments. Beyond that it is commonly a stalled evaporator fan, a stuck air damper, or frost choking the evaporator because the defrost system has failed. Telling those apart means removing the freezer’s back panel.

Why is frost or ice building up in my freezer?

Frost near the door usually means warm, humid air is getting in: check that the door closes fully and that the gasket grips a sheet of paper all the way round. A thick, even layer across the back panel points instead to the automatic defrost system — the heater, its thermostat or the control that runs it — and that needs inspection.

Why is my refrigerator leaking water?

Water inside the fridge, under the crisper drawers, is most often a defrost drain that has frozen over. Water on the floor behind the fridge more often comes from the supply line to the ice maker or dispenser, or from the drain pan. Check that the fridge leans very slightly back so the doors swing shut, look behind it for a damp connection, and tell us where the water appears when you book.

Is my refrigerator worth repairing or should I replace it?

Which part has failed matters more than age. Fans, defrost components, thermostats and ice makers are usually worth repairing. Sealed-system work — the compressor, or a refrigerant leak — is the expensive kind, and on a fridge past about ten years old it becomes a closer call. The technician will say plainly when replacement is the better value.

How does refrigerator repair pricing work?

Pricing follows the part and the labour. Replacing an evaporator fan is a short job; finding and repairing a refrigerant leak takes specialised equipment and much longer. Because the work varies that much, we do not publish a flat rate. The technician works out the price for your specific fault on site.

Do you offer same-day refrigerator repair in London?

Same-day service is often available in London, but it is not something we guarantee. It depends on the day’s schedule, where you are, and whether the part your fridge needs is in stock. While you wait, keep the doors shut: a closed fridge holds its temperature for a few hours, and a full freezer for much longer. Call with your postal code and we will tell you the soonest window we actually have.
